“When I tell American’s that I’ve flown 8 Million miles they say ‘cool.’ When I tell Europeans they say ‘my god, your carbon footprint!’ ”
– Mark G (well traveled friend and colleague, in a talk he gave while we were in Dallas this week)
Just a little quote for all of you out there who think that American recalcitrance in Bali is simply a failure of leadership. I’ll admit the head is broken, but the rot goes much, much deeper.
Americans don’t care about global warming.
After all, it is a natural cycle the world takes.
I don’t care about global warming either.
Like Harper said in the past, ” it’s a socialist scheme to suck money from the rich to give to the poor’.
I agree 100%.

Climate change is a natural occuring thing in the planet if you ask me…. but Im still all for lowering emissions and such, especially if you go to a place like hong kong…..the smog was just something else…something like kyoto isn’t the way to accomplish that, I would rather not give out Carbon credit cash to a bunch of African warlords and dictators….does that make me a bad person?

Most of my co-workers view logged air miles as a badge of honor (ditto for and expanding waste line). It means “you’re getting things done.”
Working in the technology sector I find it more than a bit ironic that more emphasis isn’t place on using technology to reduce travel, given that it contributes about 15% to GHG emissions. I have cut my air travel this year by at least 50% but this still puts me at about double the average Canadian in terms of GHG emissions. Not something to be proud of.
Air travel is growing and airlines are aggressively targetting other modes of transportation (rail and bus in particular) to increase customer wallet share. While you can certainly expect they would do this, you’d think that government would be trying to work make air travel less popular rather than more.
